When I got into straight razor shaving there were limited resources for quality
strops, and many fine designs from the past were simply no longer made. I
decided to use my skills as a craftsman and historian to reproduce and
improve upon the age old designs, and to offer them to today's shavers at
affordable prices.
Our focus is on sharpening equipment and tools to help someone new to
straight razor shaving get the best start and to help the experienced user
get more from his razors too by offering a wide array of strops and hones.
We are adding tutuorials, and are active daily, offering advice and our
experiences on the various shaving forums on the internet. The "Getting
Started" tutorial is up now and gives the basics on choosing and use of
strops, and getting started with your first straight razor shave. Links to my
storefront, as well as my weekly eBay auctions are here to make shopping
easy for my most popular items and sets.
I have been a craftsman in stone, metal, wood and leather since the early
1970's and have always focused on historic replicas, from architectural
stonework for local restoration projects, wooden view cameras for artists
and reenactors using the wet-plate collodion process, leather holsters and
belts for shooting enthusiasts, to today, and vintage pattern strops and
shaving supplies.
All of my strops are made by hand in our own shops in small quantities. I am
constantly experimenting and improving the designs, while remaining true
to the natural materials and basic concepts used a century ago. All leathers
are hand selected and cut, wooden components are all kiln dried hardwoods,
hardware is heavy brass or nickle plated metal. My sets feature razors
imported from Germany, mugs, brushes and soaps from traditional
manufacturers and to classic designs. Our Hunsrueck / Eifel and Thuringian
hones are all graded, lapped and finished here as well so they are ready for
straight razor use before being sold.
Explore our site and see what we have to offer. If you have suggestions for
products not seen or strop designs from the past just ask and it may be
something I can reproduce. Many of our most popular designs were created
and developed after a customer has asked for something not found in today's
market. Remember, we are a small shop and most products are made in
smaller batches or even one at a time to order. Occasionally something may
show as out of stock while we make more but this delay is seldom for more
than a few days. This year my wife Lorrie has joined me in the business
and tackles the daily administrative tasks while my daughter Cara, a talented
craftsman and artist in her own right, often assists from her studio with the
assembly of certain strops.
Thank you,
